Friday Friend Check-in’s

 

In the lead up to our 2020 clinic, we created our  “Friday Friend Check-in” series, where we connected with various friends of the clinic, to see what they had been up to, what advice they had to share, and how they had been finding encouragement in the midst of COVID-19!
 

Week 1 (April 17, 2020): Joe DiPenta

Week 3 (May 1, 2020): Jaccob & Kylie Slavin
In episode 3 of Friday Friend Check-in, Ryan Francis catches up with current Carolina Hurricane Jaccob Slavin and his wife Kylie to hear about what is going on in their lives. They share about how they met, the 2019 playoff run, Jaccob's affinity for Timbits, the competitive games they enjoy playing together, and much more!

Week 4 (May 8, 2020): Kenzie Lalonde.
Chico Resch catches up with former Mount Allison Mountie captain, Eastlink Community TV Producer, and clinic rook Kenzie Lalonde to discuss Halifax, broadcasting, camping, and facing your fears.

Week 5 (May 15, 2020): Drew MacIntyre
Ryan Francis connects with the "thankful journeyman", Drew MacIntyre. Drafted in 2001 to the Detroit Red Wings, Drew recently completed his 17th professional career, with NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabres, and Toronto Maple Leafs. They speak on his journey so far, the role chapels have had in his life, and taking comfort in a quieter pace of life.

Week 6 (May 22, 2020): Steven Bolton
In episode 6 of Friday Friend Check-in, Ryan Francis sits down with former Tri-City Storm (USHL) and Bethal University (NCAA DIII) goaltender, Steven Bolton. They reminisce about their time in Alaska, chat about what life has looked like since August, and how he has found peace and identity.

Week 8 (June 9th, 2020): Saroya Tinker

On Friday, we pressed pause to take time to listen and reflect on the injustices and social inequities that have existed and exist in our society. In a Tuesday edition of Friday Friend Check-in, Ryan Francis connects with recent Yale University graduate (NCAA D1), former Team Canada player, and 4th overall pick in the 2020 NWHL Draft, Saroya Tinker, to have an open conversation of her experience with racism, her thoughts on how we can collectively combat racism, and her advice to those who dream of playing professional hockey but aren't provided the same opportunities because of the colour of their skin

Week 9 (June 12th, 2020): Justin Smith

Week 8 features former NCAA DI and professional (ECHL & overseas) hockey player, Justin Smith, a friend of the clinic since the beginning. He catches up with Ryan Francis about what the last few years have entailed (spoiler alert: it's a lot), the importance of hard work, and the comfort his relationship with Christ brings him.
